From Spain to Milan
From Spain to Milan, in pursuit of a dream. This is the story of a designer, but first of all of a woman who, driven by her great passion for architecture and shapes, has managed to get where many others have failed.
It was in 1961 that Patricia Urquiola opened her eyes to the world in the town of Oviedo and, since her childhood, shared with two brothers, she expressed a strong sense of creativity and adventure that soon led her to move to Milan, to continue her studies at the Polytechnic, breathing that air of freedom that the Italian panorama offers in the field of design
“Look for passion, travel and don’t be afraid of confrontation”, this is Patricia’s advice to all young people in search of their own professional path as well as a bit of luck to start with. This was the case for Patricia, when she had the opportunity to collaborate with minds of the calibre of Achille Castigliani (her speaker), Eugenio Bettinelli and Vico Magistretti with whom she shared the guidance of Lissoni Associati.
Creations, Styles and Trends
Urquiola was 40 years old when she chose to express all her talent and determination by opening her own studio and created unique creations thanks to collaborations with major companies: the Shimmer and Liquefy collection for Glas Italia, the Klara armchair for Moroso, the collection of Canasta Collection sofas for B&B Italia, the Landscape porcelain for Rosenthal, Bowy-Sofa for Cassina, Overlay Bowl for Louis Vuitton. Her elegant yet informal and relaxed style, which is always attentive to the environment and eco-sustainability, has allowed her to exhibit her creations in museums and collections and to obtain the gold medal for art in her native country. Not only design, but also architecture, installations, showrooms and much more for this artist strongly connected with the earth, the air and the climate, and who knows how much more will be added to his portfolio.
